Raised in the floral and vineyard valley of the Neretva River, this town is a stone rose. It was built around the Old Bridge which was erected in 1566 near the former chain bridge.
“From that period onwards many valuable cultural monuments were built in Mostar. The Old Bridge, along with the old town since 2005, is on the list of UNESCO’s protected cultural heritage.
The city was named after bridge watchers on the banks of the Neretva River. The Old Bridge
The old bridge was built in the period between 1557-1566. Although built without any aesthetic intent, with the intention of linking the two banks of the Neretva, its 29-meter long and 20-meter high archway has forever changed the image and future of the city. The bridge is also associated with two towers, Halibia and Tara, in which Ottoman arms were guarded during the Ottoman rule.

2. The Old Town
A little further away from the Old Bridge, hidden in the side streets on the west side, is the Old Bridge miniature replica known as Kriva ?uprija (the crucked bridge). It was built in 1558, serving as a model for a much larger construction project that followed, of course, the Old Bridge. In 2001 it was damaged in the floods, after which it was rebuilt. It belongs to the architectural ensemble of the Old Town and, together with the Old Bridge, is a part of protected cultural heritage.

3. Catholic Church
The Catholic Church was built in 1866, with the permission of the Sultan at the time and a gift of 50000 groats. Along with the church, the Franciscan monastery was built in 1890. In the monastery there is a library with very valuable and rare books. The church was burned in 1992 and a new church was erected at its place, whose tall bell tower dominates the skyline.

4. Rondo
The Square of the Croatian greats, better known as Rondo, was built in the Austro-Hungarian period. From the central roundabout six promenades spread. On the square, The Croatian House “”Herceg Stjepan Kosa?a”” is situated. Concerts, plays, art exhibitions and other cultural events are held in it.

5. Blagaj – the spring of river Buna
Only 12 km away from Mostar there is the famous Spring of River Buna, the strongest karst water spring in Europe with an average annual water flow of 43 m³ per second. The source is located under a rocky cliff 200 m high, and Derviška Tekija was built near the source itself, which, with the surrounding nature, makes a unique and unrepeatable whole.

EVENTS:

Guests enjoy a rich calendar of events in the summer evenings, such as Mostar Summer Fest,
Mostar Spring, Diving from the Old Bridge, Mostar Blues Festival …

[46
