The story of Split lasts for full seventeen centuries since the Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to build a palace on the peninsula near the great Roman city of Salona, ??where he would spend the last years of his life in peace. In these 1700 years the Palace was slowly becoming and finally became a city that today falls rich in tradition, magnificent history, the beauty of natural and cultural heritage.<br \/>\nDiocletian&#8217;s palace and the entire historical core of Split have been a part of UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979, not only because of the exceptional preservation of the palace itself, but also because the palace and its town still live their life in its fullest. In this structure, visible and still living are all the historical layers of ancient Rome, through the Middle Ages to the present.<br \/>\n&#8220;By walking through the ancient city you can travel through time, observe highlights of ancient architecture such as Peristyle, medieval Romanesque churches and Gothic palaces, Renaissance portals of noble houses, Baroque fa\u00e7ades and modern architecture, which are extensively incorporated in rich heritage.<br \/>\nSplit is much more than a magnificent architectural scene. Diocletian&#8217;s Palace<br \/>\nDiocletian&#8217;s palace is the ancient palace of the Emperor Diocletian in Split. Around the year 300 it was built by a Roman emperor Diocletian. The remains of the palac are now part of the historic core of the city of Split, which is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage in Europe in 1979.<\/p>\n<p>2. Sv. Duje<br \/>\nOne of the most recognizable symbols of the city is the Cathedral of St. Duje. St. Dujam was the first bishop of Salona and in his honour a magnificent cathedral was erected. The beautiful cathedral bell tower, 57 meters high, was built in the 13th century.<\/p>\n<p>3. Peristil<br \/>\nIn front of the cathedral is Peristil, a square surrounded by pillars which is the centre of the cultural life of Split and where, due to the extraordinary acoustics, the traditional cultural and music event Split Summer is held.<\/p>\n<p>4. Prokurative<br \/>\nThe Republic Square or Prokurative is one of the most beautiful squares of Split. Beautiful neo-Renaissance buildings decorate it on three sides, while the fourth is open to the sea. Various cultural and musical events are held in the square during the summer months.<\/p>\n<p>5.Riva Waterfront<br \/>\nSplit\u2019s Riva Waterfront is a cult place in the town and a favourite gathering place among the locals. The waterfront was completely reconstructed a few years ago.
